I THINK C-VILLE NEEDS TO TAKE A LONG LOOK AT THE COACHING STAFF. THERE ARE GIRLS THAT ARE SITTING THE BENCH WHILE THE TEAM GETS BEAT GAME AFTER GAME. I DON'T BLAME ONE SINGLE GIRL ON THAT TEAM I FEEL THEY ARE PLAYING VERY HARD. I BLAME THE COACHES. I THINK THEY ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE DROPPED THE BALL.

pop4,
Welcome to the forum. I am going to tell you the same thing I told the folks in the Sheridan thread. Do not come on here just to bash coaches, players, etc. If you have a problem with the coaching staff, bring it up with the AD, principal, or someone. Not here. This site does not tolerate bashing anyone. |

Who is coaching varsity? reserves?this yesr. Will there be enough for a freshman team? Freshman class has done pretty well last couple of years, right? Any
help from them this year?

I'm not one for coach bashing either but when you sit back and watch girls dedicate hour after hour all summer long and then go to the games and get beat time after time because a coach refuses to consider the fact that the way she is playing is not working, it is very frustrating. We are playing 4 people up on a block(and probably getting 1 out of 15 attempts) and 2 people back on defense then we are yelling at the 2 in the back because they can't cover 3/4 of the court? Sorry, its not working, lets try something different. It doesn't take a rocket scientist. Bottom line, do we want to win or are we more concerned about developing Freshman for upcoming years? If that is the plan then maybe the coach needs to move down to JV's and let the JV coach give it a shot? |

Funny..........you aren't the first person to say that the JV coach should be the Head Honcho.........interesting.

The JV coach in my opinion is top notch. She is out to win but will actually take the time to give some positive feedback to the girls. There is absolutely
no positivitiy on the Varsity floor. In reply to the girls sitting on the bench, at the games I attended most girls did get in the game if even for a little
bit. But what I noticed more was if certain girls made one mistake they were immediately pulled out of the game. Mind you I said some, not all who made
mistakes. How much pressure would a girl be playing under if she knew that she messes up once she is out of the game? I saw one girl play a very good first
game at John Glenn, made two mistakes in the second game and was pulled out for most of the remainder of the night. I have also witnessed others who make 5 or
6 mistakes a game and never sit the bench. There is no rhyme or reason as to the thought process going on here.

Grad,
You cannot use sub patterns to judge who is doing good or bad, even in the JV. There are teams in SE Ohio who run 18 subs into a set. Is that a sign of someone not playing, or a coach looking for the best matchup? If the setter in a 5-1 handles every ball, and makes five or six mistakes, well, she may look bad, but stays in the game. They may not have another setter, and if she has all the offense going through her she will make mistakes. But if a receiver can't get 3 or 4 balls, a change might have to happen. Let the coach coach and the players play. Too many people count up minutes instead of looking at the game situation. |

jkumpire,
You are right about the setter making mistakes but we don't run a 5-1 we have 2 different setters! We also have another girl on the team that can set but plays as a hitter when she gets the chance to play. As for the substitutions for mistakes that is not happening. You may have a girl play a decent first game and not be in the line up the next 2 to 3 games or you can have a setter who becomes a hitter in the front row but makes 10-15 mistakes a night and NEVER comes out of the game. It is very frustrating to watch and difficult for the girls who are getting pulled from the game to understand. |

Well Star,
What can I say, I happened to see CR once this year, and they look to be a young outfit with some skills. And if you are talking about JV there are a ton of reasons why a sub pattern is a certain way, even in a 4-2 set. If the coach knows what she is doing, trust her, or have the players ask her why certain things happen. But, don't get down on her, or anyone else. CR VB may get hammered in the league, but come tourney time goods things can happen. |

The JV is not the problem. They have a solid team and a GREAT coach.
The varsity on the other hand is a different story. |

We'll see | ||

They might get killed in the league, and do great when it matters. The biggest issue might be in between the ears of the players.

The varsity is fun to watch, very spirited and hard working. Not enough height to compete against some of the teams, but still competitive which is
encouriging. JV's is all freshman and a Soph. It seems they play well at home but struggle on the road. They are very raw but have 3 or 4 players who could
contribute in the coming years. JV coach has done a great job teaching. Varsity coach needs some direction (maturity) to build the program she wants. You
can't brow beat after a team plays one of the best games they have played all year against a team that is superior and expect growth. These ladies need to
be coached not scolded ;unless they don't put forth effort; at this stage. This may be frustrating for the coach but this program is in all reality coming
from nowhere. They have started teaching the game at a younger level which is encouring, considering they usually don't see a v-ball until they are 13.
Don't tell your younger players to "leave" or "they'' never get any better" isn't that what the cuts are for.

wow..well thank you for the information hoss. So does Cville need a new coaching staff or just need to have the players come to practices and games with more
heart and dedication for the game?
A little criticism can go a long way if players take it in a positive way. |
