2008 Season |
Lead | |

Sheridan returns alot of talent for this coming year , plus several new comers . Someone will have to step up and fill the void of Daniel Johnson . After
Sheridan's 2nd place finish in the MVL last season , I look for them to compete again for the title . This also marks the first year in over 30 years
without Coach Whetherholt , thanks coach for all the years of dedication to the Sheridan Track and XC teams . You will be missed . Good luck to the new
coaches , my son is very excited about the upcoming season .

Off the top of my head, my early assessment is that Sheridan, Maysville, Morgan and Tri-Valley are all looking strong on the boy's side. For the girls,
Tri-Valley is strong and very deep, but West Muskingum, Morgan, and Sheridan also look dangerous. Should be a good competitive cross-country season in the
MVL.

Horde, I hope to be... since both of my kids are now graduated, my involvement will be a little less. But I intend to make as many of the meets as I can, and
help out whenever I'm able to do so. I look forward to seeing you at some meets in the fall! Best of success to your son and his team!

I know for sure that I'm going to be missing some people, leaving some people off, etc. There are bound to be kids that will have great seasons who I just
don't know about yet. But, strictly speaking of the kids that I know of for sure, at this very, very early juncture of the pre-season, I would say that
these runners look like good prospects for all-MVL:
For the boys: Teddy Crozier, Tri-Valley: top returning finisher from the MVL meet last year. Jordan Ayers & Cole Lapp, Tri-Valley: the talent is there... depends on summer training, etc. Both very solid runners. Ryan Cooper, Maysville: had a great freshman season, could be serious contender for the MVL title Kyle (?) Smith, Maysville: hope I have the name right! Finished second to Nate Boyer in the MVL 3200 race, looked very strong at season's end. Cameron Severence, Sheridan: looked great during track season; had an excellent cross-country season last year. A couple of other guys from Sheridan, whose names escape me at the moment; summer work will determine how high they finish. Morgan has several guys who could jump up to all-MVL; again, off the top of my head, names escape me, but somebody from Morgan will be in there. Sorry that I don't have more to offer about the boys; obviously there are others who can and will make their mark. Some thoughts on the girls later. |

I think it is Tyler Smith from Maysville, not Kyle. Can't argue with the runners you have listed, they should all be close to the top as long as their
seasons goes smoothly. I know Sheridan and Maysville will both have new coaches this year so it will be interesting to see how the runners develop.

Some thoughts on the girls division in the MVL this season:
First let me say that my list is going to be woefully inadequate... I'm sure to miss some people... I'll no doubt screw up somebody's name... etc. But, as with the boys, my limited and very, very early take on the girl's situation this year: Allison Stillwell (Tri-Valley) and Kaylee Nutter (West M.): two genuinely great runners, all-Ohio performers last year, barring injury or illness they are the odds-on favorites to dominate the MVL this season. Nutter had an other-worldly track season... but Stillwell is the defending MVL champ. This should be a very exciting race, between two very tough competitors. In addition to Stillwell, Tri-Valley has several other girls who have the talent to be all-MVL: Kelcy Jones... Molly Huey... Lauren Lapp... Sydney Lapp... Allison Rasor... and Emily Bay. Understand, I'm not predicting that all of these girls will be all conference, but I am saying that they are all talented enough to make it. Paige Boyer (?) West Muskingum... not even sure that she wasn't a senior last year, or if she even runs cross-country, but it seems to me that she had a very nice track season, and could be a force to be reckoned with come this fall. In fact, West had several distance girls who made an impact during track. I would expect West to be pretty strong this year, if those girls all run cc. Brittany Jacolenne, Maysville: not sure if she is running this year or not... but if she is, she's got a lot of talent and is definitely all-MVL caliber. Sheridan and Morgan had a number of talented girls last year, pretty much all of whose names I can't recall right now. Sorry about that. New Lex, it seems to me, also had one or two kids who were very strong. Somebody else help me out here and fill in the blanks with some names! At the end of the day, I think that the girls side of the league looks pretty deep and very strong. If you make all-MVL this season, you will have earned it! |

For the girls, don't forget to throw in Melanie Wollenberg from New Lex. Second place in the MVL 3200m last May and gearing up for her senior year. Also,
Crooksville has two strong girls in sophomore Brittany Piccone and senior Chelsea Post. Post was ninth in the MVL race last year, garnering her first All-MVL
honor.
The top boys next year will be Teddy Crozier, Tyler Smith, Ryan Cooper, and Cameron Severance. The boys side lost a chunk of the All-MVL roster, though, so there are ample spots open to fill those openings to the ones that train the hardest. |

Sheridan has along with Cameron Severance returning , they have Sr. Jordan Dupler and Levi Barnett and Kelton Smith , Jr's Broc Wilkins , Benji Phillips ,
and new comer Collin McCartney and Freshman Ben Metzger . They will also have Brian Beiber running his first year of XC , he ran very well in the 2 mile in
track .They should be very competitive in the MVL in 2008 .

I agree that Sheridan is going to be very strong this year.

My hope is that Sheridan will be very competitive this season.
It should be the goal of every program in the MVL to be a contender at the League Meet, but it would be ignorant to state that the Generals will be peaking for that meet. If all the runners come out to train hard the next few weeks and start laying a foundation for their season there is no doubt the Generals will be training hard, but smart. The Lady Generals have very similar goals as the boys. Run their best when it counts - Regional Championships. For those Generals that frequent this page - get your friends out. I know this is fair week, but voluntary practices begin daily next week so start preparing your bodies! Good luck to ALL MVL'ers! I know I can not wait for the 2008 season to get underway! |
