John Glenn- Sr. Rob Metry 6'1, Jr Jake Heagen 6'3, Jr Lane Crawford 6'3, Jr Jonah Carson 6'3, Sr Avery Allender 5'11, Sr Guy Long 6'2, Jr Nic Fraunfelter 5'11. West Muskingum- Sr Austin Brock 5'11, one other guard that played significant minutes forget the name, Wilson, Gutridge, Wahl off the reserve team.....might be a long year. Tri-Valley- Brian Shley 5'10 jr. Matt Shley 5'8 jr. Max Gilgore 6'3 jr Rhys Jonard 6'1 Jr. #12 from this years team not sure of name. Morgan- Ted Vynalek 6'1 jr. Cameron Sayers 6'0 sr. Dustin Kangas......a few junior varsity players.......might be another long season. Philo- Smith, Stiltner, a few other kids off an average jv team.......not a lot of talent but very well coached. Not sure how the league will end up as some kids will get better, some may or may not play. The league will be completely up for grabs with pretty much any team being capable of beating anyone. Each team seems to have a few very solid players but I'm not sure how much depth anyone will have. Of course, one mustn't be too hasty; he will be a sophomore and would be going against more mature players but he demonstrated, IMO, some solid board play as this past season progressed. I think he has the potential to play bigger than he is. We shall see, and the proverbial hoping is that he will take his game to the summer courts. Om Mani Padme Hum

All of those Sophomores are very athletic. This past season was the first season most of them got to play together and didn't gel very well. If they come together as a team they could be very dangerous.

Cohl Secoy (5'9", sr) will be the other returning starter with Brock. Chris Brown (6'4", sr) and Will Lenhart (5'11", sr) will be the other regulars from the rotation. Brown showed some promise over the last couple weeks of the season and should be capable of double-digit scoring next year with some work. Based upon who came off the bench next, Dakota Gutridge (5'8", sr) would be the fifth starter. Jordan Wilson (5'10", jr), Austin Gutridge (6', jr), Parker Wahl (5'9", jr) and Ty Coward (6'2", sr) would look to be the top subs. Outside of Brock and maybe Brown, scoring will be a significant issue. This group should be better defensively than this year's group. Team cohesion should be much improved and maybe even fit better with Butler's style. I'd say even money on next year's West M team having more wins than this year (only 11). Outside of Philo and Morgan everyone should compete with each other on a given night. I see JG, Maysville and TV at the top at this point. I'm curious about how Sheridan and West M react to losing their big guns. If I had a single $20 bet to make money on, I'd take New Lex to show (top three). I'd like the odds to hit this longshot. Unfortunately, I'm with OnX and don't see an improved year for the league next year. The boys (from all the teams) should take this as a challenge and hit both the courts and the weight room.

Everyone else will be playing for third place and down. No play-off runs of note.

Maysville JG West M Morgan Sheridan TV Philo Crooksvile NL Laugh if you want, but the Morgan team returning next year were .500 as a JV team together and beat TV both times.

You have to poke me with a stick like that. I'd throw down a hypothetical $100 pretty quickly that both NL, Sheridan, and TV end up with better MVL records than Morgan next year. You could probably take this year's standing's, shuffle teams a couple spots one way or the other and get a good guess for next year. NL (moving up) and Philo (moving down) might be the exceptions. I don't have Morgan on my list to make a move up much, if any, and I saw all three of their HS teams (V, JV & Fr) this year. Flip Morgan and NL on BBDad's list and move TV to the top and that might be close. It's hard to put much stock in JV records or wins depending upon who's playing up or down or even coaching philosophy (play 'em all or not). I will give BBDad credit for supporting his team. Hope springs eternal for us all this time of year!

Trey- Didnt you say that this year? Tornado- Yes, JV doesnt mean squat. BBD- It could be a good or bad sign of winning the JV crown. It could mean your Varsity is loaded, thus preventing your JV heroes from seeing action at the top. It could also mean that everyone else moved up players and you didnt; again could spell trouble. I have seen teams blast through the JV's and then get worked one year later at the Varsity. Again this would probably be due to crappy coaching. But I have also seen teams simply reload. I called JG winning next year before we even started this year, so I'll stick by it. POY Cameron from TV, I still think he should have won it this year and never played a game.

I simply stated they went .500 their Sophmore year, beating TV both times. That was nice. There is more to the team comping up next year than people are realizing. Dark horse, sleeper, underdog, etc..... Whatever you want to call them, they will surprise many!! And yes, you were correct. This year could be blamed on something you stated. Treymaker, it really was nothing personal. I honestly though NL was a better team than their record reflected. If you will look back at an earlier post of mine, I was on record stating that I thought that Corbin Wollenburg played with the most intensity of anyone that I had seen this year. This was Morgan @ NL game. He is a great kid!!

That's a shame, because there are talented athletes on that team coming back that can win games. Unless they are held back by methods of yesteryear!!!
