Facts are they went 10-10 in the tournament 1999-2008.. I'd be hardpressed to find too many MVL teams with as many wins in the same timeframe. Heck, Tri-Valley didn't win a tournament game for almost 4 or 5 years. They were never the best team in their district. NEVER. One year they were #8 in the state, and they made it to District. Other than that, they were battling Bellaire with D-1 college athletes and 3 State Qualifiers since 1999. They didn't win a tournament game ONLY twice. Twice. 2001 and 2002. I doubt ANY MVL teams did better in their first games over the same timespan (8-2 in first games), 2-6 in the second wasn't good.. but as I mentioned, they lost three times to eventual state qualifers and 6 times to Regional Qualifiers. Very few times did a team not make it out of districs.
by the way. West Muskingum lost in their first game this past year 61-46.
Fair enough. Tri-Valley did to, in a Central DI game. They also won the MVL. When they weren't favored. Actually. West was favored much heavier than TV last year. Go figure.
West = Second smallest school in the league. Was there A year between 1999 and 2008 where they WEREN'T in the MVL title discussion, or at least in the top 5? I don't know if there is a year. Where was the smallest or third smallest schools? Crooksville and New Lexington have almost routinely been near the bottom of the rankings in the same timeframe. Sheridan? River View when they were in the league? Tri-Valley? Rarely has a team shown the consistency over such a large amount of time as West Muskingum. Yes, they didn't win the MVL. Yes, they never reached the regionals.
You can always look back and say "We could have done better." And you could have, technically. I know coaches think that all the time. "We didn't achieve what our goals were." Well, sometimes you just don't have the horses to get there.
Rarely did West get beat in the tournament when they shouldn't have or when they were considered the "favorite". There were a couple times sure, but not nearly as much as say, Tri-Valley, over the same period.
